Theme: Generative AI in Higher Education Teaching, Learning, and Research: Candid Confrontations
Egerton University is proud to host the inaugural AI in Higher Education Summit, a groundbreaking three-day event from
14th to 16th October 2025.
Under the theme, “
Generative AI in Higher Education Teaching, Learning, and Research: Candid Confrontations,
” the summit will serve as a critical platform for a diverse audience of academics, researchers, and students to engage in honest and open dialogue on the present and future of AI in higher education. By exploring both the transformative potential and the complex challenges of AI, the event ultimately aims to shift the institutional mindset from viewing AI as a threat to embracing it as a powerful tool for academic, professional, and institutional advancement.
The event will take a deep dive into GenAI in Academia to offer a vital comparative analysis on AI integration in developed country contexts against the unique realities and opportunities within African institutions. It will address pressing ethical challenges impacting teaching, learning, and research integrity, culminating in the development of actionable policy recommendations essential for universities. Subsequently, the focus will shift to AI Research Capacity, highlighting crucial funding opportunities, national strategic visions, and the imperative of ethical research practices for propelling African innovation.
A significant portion of the summit will be dedicated to AI for learning, where participants will gain hands-on experience with AI as a personalised and adaptive study partner, while rigorously examining its potential pitfalls, including the pervasive issue of "hallucinations" and other critical ethical challenges. The program culminates in an immersive experience focused on AI in the Workplace, where leading experts will share invaluable insights on cultivating essential future-ready skills, and practical AI tools will be explored. Ethical considerations will be further explored through a stimulating debate on AI's cognitive effects on human thinking, and a powerful closing keynote on navigating the ethical horizon for responsible AI integration. The entire event will culminate in a unique segment dedicated to GenAI Creative Performances, featuring artistic interpretations of AI's multifaceted impact on human expression and professional life.
The summit's enriching experience will be facilitated by a rich blend of seasoned academicians from philosophy, ethics, pedagogy, and technology, ensuring a multi-disciplinary perspective. Crucially, industry partners will be deeply engaged throughout the event, sharing cutting-edge insights and showcasing their generative AI technologies. Adding a powerful layer of inspiration, distinguished Egerton University alumni actively shaping the global AI landscape will share compelling accounts of their academic journeys and impactful career growth.
Ultimately, this AI in Higher Education summit will serve as a pivotal event for empowering participants with the critical thinking abilities, practical skills, and robust ethical frameworks indispensable for navigating and leading in an AI-powered future, thereby fostering impactful and responsible integration of AI into Egerton University’s teaching, learning and research engagements
