Scam Alert for Dentists and Dental Hygienists!
Be Aware of Fraudulent Calls, E-mails, and Letters Targeting Kansas Licensees:
Scammers are impersonating officials from the Kansas Dental Board, law enforcement, and federal agencies
They may claim you are under investigation or that your license is at risk
These scams are designed to intimidate and trick you into revealing sensitive information for sending money
What These Scams May Look Like:
Caller ID shows “Kansas Dental Board” or a government agency
Demands for immediate payment or threats of license suspension
Requests for DEA numbers, Social Security numbers, or banking information
Fake case numbers or forged documents appear legitimate
What to Know:
The Kansas Dental Board staff will never ask for personal or financial information by phone
We do not threaten arrest or immediate license suspension over the phone
All formal communication from the Board is sent in writing and can be verified
Licensing Application
Every person who desires to practice dental hygiene in Kansas must submit a written application and proof that the applicant is at least 18 years of age, of good moral character, and a graduate of a dental school or college approved by the
American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA
)
. Other requirements are outlined in each application below.
* Effective immediately, each applicant must complete the following prior to application submission
1. Fully Completed Application
. Assemble all documentation and submit a fully completed application prior to Board processing. Please read all instructions carefully.
2. Clinical Exam.
Please make sure your clinical exams meet the Board's requirements for licensure in the State of Kansas. You will find the requirements
here
.
3. Date of Application Submission for 2026 Graduates
. Please do not submit your application more than seven (7) days before your actual graduation date. For example, if you graduate on May 9, 2026, you may submit your application no sooner than May 2, 2026. This ensures access to transcripts with a degree posted.
4. Dental Hygiene Students Graduating In or After 2023
. On and after January 1, 2023, all applicants seeking a license to practice dental hygiene in Kansas must take and successfully complete all sections of a clinical licensure exam that is patient-based or manikin-based.
5. Printing the Application
. Please make sure the application prints in full on your paper. If necessary, shrink your printing scale to ensure the entire application prints in full on your paper.
Licensing by Examination
If you are a recent graduate from a school or have been licensed in another state for less than 3 years, you will apply by

Licensing by Credential
If you have been licensed for more than 3 years and have practiced during the past 3 years from the date of application, you will apply by

Licensing by Reinstatement of a Kansas License
If you previously held a Kansas license, but the license is no longer active, and you have practiced during the past 3 years from the date of application, you will apply by

Licensing by Returning a Retired or Disabled Kansas License to Active
If you have placed your Kansas license on retired or disabled status, you will apply by
