Students for International Mission Service or SIMS exemplifies Loma Linda University Health's commitment to global service, incorporating international service opportunities into academic curriculum in order to prepare health professions students for a career of effective global service and to promote the health of global communities. SIMS’ mission is to provide students with high-quality service-learning opportunities empowers them to become caring, competent, and socially responsible health professionals who value service as a lifelong process.
Service Programs
Short-term Group Trips
SIMS organizes short-term service trips around the globe for groups of students and health professionals during winter, spring and summer school breaks. SIMS teams are interdisciplinary and composed primarily of students from various schools, as well as Loma Linda University Health employees.

International Mission Service - Learning Programs (I-SERVE & SME)
I-Serve provides students with an opportunity to be exposed to health care systems in cross-cultural setting around the world. These programs are designed to offer students a broad educational experience within their health care professions.

Deferred Mission Appointee (DMA)
A medical or dental student willing to accept a mission appointment in exchange for amortization of student debt over the span of mission service. Other Loma Linda students are referred to the Global Service Award program.

Global Service Award (GSA)
The Global Service Award provides opportunities for financially burdened Loma Linda University alumni of all disciplines (excluding MD and DDS programs) to serve overseas in volunteer or limited-stipend positions while receiving educational loan repayment assistance.
