About Us
Our mission
: The mission of the Catawba Honors Program (CHP) is to involve academically gifted students in a community of scholars who pursue challenging educational experiences with outstanding faculty.
Our people:
Students in the CHP are intellectually curious individuals interested in creating a unique path through the undergraduate experience as part of a vibrant learning community that extends beyond the classroom. Faculty share this intellectual curiosity and focus on exploring important enduring questions with an interdisciplinary approach.
Our foundation
: The CHP instills an understanding and appreciation of the liberal arts in its students. We aim to provide this appreciation by offering an education grounded in the liberal arts, producing graduates who reflect the qualities of a liberally-educated person.
In the CHP classroom
: Led by talented and dynamic professors, our course communities offer students the opportunity to create original, interdisciplinary research that is qualitatively different from the coursework in traditional undergraduate courses. We produce these works as contributions to contemporary scholarly debates around the "big questions” at the center of the history of humankind’s search for meaning.
On Campus:
Beyond the classroom, we are a vibrant community within Catawba College’s campus life, living together and building relationships through social events, residence life, and leadership.
In the nearby community
: CHP students are active members of the local Salisbury-Rowan County community and their home communities through service.
Near and Far
: Students and faculty have special opportunities to travel in the US to present research at Honors conferences and in the US or overseas as part of Honors travel courses.
