Human Services
Our human services major introduces you to the many rewarding jobs in the public and private sectors. Because our faculty marries psychology, counseling, and sociology, you develop many interpersonal skills, including communication, leadership, and cross-cultural understanding. These skills transfer readily to the workforce for jobs in public relations, rehabilitation, or non-profit organizations. You could also pursue graduate studies in counseling, social work, criminology, law, or psychology. Wingate human services students also have opportunities to participate in the Human Services Club and Tau Upsilon Alpha National Human Services Honor Society.
We want you to be prepared with real-life experience when you enter the job market. That’s why every student majoring in human services participates in a practicum. Your 100-hour practicum is an internship giving you work experience in:

Nidia Angeles, '20
Being a Human Services major at Wingate was one of the best decisions of my life. The courses I took allowed me to gain a bigger understanding about the issues people with different socioeconomic status face, and why it's important to help reduce/eliminate those issues. While at Wingate, I discovered my passion for serving the community through an internship that allowed me to explore human services further. My professors became my mentors and are the reason I learned how much I love doing what I do now. Through my internship I was able to make connections that have helped me get to where I am today. I work for the North Carolina court as a GAL program assistant, serving children who have been abused or neglected and advocating for them in court.
