Community Service - The Gunston School
Community Service
Community service is not only an expectation, it is a graduation requirement at Gunston. Students must individually complete 45 hours of community service to graduate. Gunston students often involve themselves in churches, scouting activities, artisan and craft fairs, summer camps, and afternoon programs for younger children. Students have been active in fundraising efforts of the American Cancer Society, annual canned food drives for the local community, and local and state programs promoting the health and rejuvenation of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Gunston is an active member of the Chester River Association's water quality monitoring program and is also a site for oyster spatting. Gunston's emphasis on community service continues to increase each year.
