Driscoll Children’s Hospital Recognized as a Leader in Patient Safety
Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been recognized by Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) as a leader in patient safety after successfully completing the SPS 2025 Safety Challenge. This recognition includes both Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi and Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley. Only 27 hospitals across the national SPS network achieved this distinction.
The SPS Safety Challenge is a rigorous initiative designed to strengthen hospital safety systems, reduce preventable harm, and advance high-reliability practices. Completion of the 2025 Badge Challenge reflects engagement that goes beyond standard participation and demonstrates measurable progress in patient safety improvement.
As part of the challenge, Driscoll Children’s Hospital demonstrated leadership in several key areas:
Advancing local safety performance
through targeted improvement work aligned with the SPS Safety Performance Plan
Deploying Learning Teams
to better understand frontline workflows and incorporate staff expertise into safety improvements
Reducing safety clutter
by streamlining processes and removing unnecessary steps that can distract from patient care
“This recognition reflects the consistent focus our teams bring to patient safety across both hospitals,” said
Dr. Abdallah Dalabih
, chief medical officer of Driscoll Children’s Hospital. “The work behind this achievement strengthens our systems and supports safer care for children across South Texas.”
This recognition underscores Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s ongoing commitment to patient safety and continuous improvement and reinforces its role as a model within the national pediatric hospital community. Both hospitals will be recognized at the upcoming SPS Learning Session in St. Louis later this year.
