Emily McKissick, Ph.D.
, Senior Scientist at HumRRO, has been named the 2025 recipient of the
PTCMW Service Award
, a prestigious honor that recognizes individuals for their outstanding service to and support in advancing the organization’s mission.
Established in 1977, PTCMW seeks to advance the science and practice of industrial-organizational psychology and related fields through high-value professional growth and networking opportunities in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area and beyond. The Service Award is given to individuals who have volunteered significant time to further these goals through board service, committee participation, event presentations, and community engagement.
PTCMW President Alec Campbell described McKissick as “the backbone of PTCMW,” noting her far-reaching impact across the organization.
“Emily’s impact on PTCMW is felt in every corner of the organization,” Campbell continued. “PTCMW would simply not be the same without Emily’s dedication, skill, and heart. Her humility may keep her out of the spotlight, but her impact is undeniable. She embodies the spirit of service, collaboration, and excellence that defines PTCMW, and her many contributions have strengthened our community in lasting and meaningful ways.”
McKissick has held numerous leadership roles within PTCMW, including Vice President of Programs and Webmaster. Campbell highlighted her instrumental work in planning and implementing engaging events and her recent efforts to enhance the organization’s digital infrastructure.
When asked what drew her to volunteer with PTCMW, McKissick noted, “I was drawn by the opportunity to deepen my connections within the local I-O psychology community while contributing to the field. PTCMW has been a wonderful opportunity to both advance my own knowledge within the field and support emerging professionals as they develop their careers.”
McKissick emphasized the professional and personal growth she has experienced through her leadership roles. “During my time with PTCMW, I have really appreciated the connections I have made. I have also strengthened my ability to manage diverse perspectives and drive meaningful initiatives. Stepping into the role as Webmaster has also been particularly rewarding, providing me with practical web development and design experience while enabling me to strengthen PTCMW’s online presence and member accessibility.”
For those considering volunteering with PTCMW or similar organizations, McKissick offered encouraging words: “I would definitely encourage anyone considering volunteering to take the leap. Beyond the obvious networking benefits, you gain exposure to diverse perspectives that challenge and enrich your thinking. There is something uniquely valuable about collaborating with professionals who share your professional passion but bring different experiences and insights. You will grow both professionally and personally while contributing to something larger than yourself.”
When reflecting on the recognition from previous leadership, McKissick expressed deep gratitude. “Being recognized by previous leadership made me feel extremely honored. When I looked at the names of past recipients, professionals I deeply respect, I felt a profound sense of honor and appreciation for the PTCMW community.”
McKissick joins Dan Putka, Ph.D. (2017) as HumRRO recipients of the PTCMW Service Award.
