Established in 1976, and named in honor of
the Goldstein sisters
, The Goldstein Museum of Design (GMD) is a research center in the College of Design and the only design museum in the Upper Midwest. Through our teaching collection of 36,000+ multidisciplinary objects and free, public exhibitions on the St. Paul and East Bank campuses, we advance learning in design history and practice for students and the greater community.

GMD's research center, staff, collections, and main gallery are based in
McNeal Hall
on the St. Paul campus. The building links an original Home Economics hall (pictured above), where Harriet and Vetta Goldstein taught from 1910–1949, with an addition from 1976 (pictured left), the year the museum was established.
