We are extremely grateful to our volunteers whose time and effort bring so much to the Science Museum and its visitors. Whatever your background or experience, our Volunteer Programme is open to all.

WHAT DO VOLUNTEERS DO?
As a volunteer you can:
Help us create an unforgettable experience for our visitors by giving directions, leading talks and
tours
or
object handling
sessions
Provide behind the scenes support, helping to make our unique objects and records accessible to all
Support our Learning team to inspire visitors of all ages with events and activities
Gain valuable hands-on experience and skills in a variety of Museum roles

Share incredible stories from our collection through free public tours and talks in our permanent galleries.

WHAT TRAINING AND SUPPORT DO VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE?
We provide full induction, training and supervision for all our volunteers, tailored to each volunteer role. This can include:
How to engage our visitors
Delivering your workshop or activity
Handling museum objects safely
Meeting your team and staff members
Safeguarding training
Volunteers have access to museum social events, a dedicated volunteers’ break room and travel expenses reimbursed (conditions apply).
‘I have had a great time, and it has really helped me to grow as a person and make many new friends’
HOW DO I BECOME A SCIENCE MUSEUM VOLUNTEER?
Our Volunteering programme is open to anyone aged 18 and over—all you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in. A science or museum background is by no means essential.
