Step Back in History
Gammelgården | old farm
Established in 1972, Gammelgården Museum of Scandia honors the Swedish immigrants who founded the community and
celebrates the story of all immigrants to their new land.
With eight open-air museums throughout Minnesota, Gammelgården Museum is the only one of this type in Washington County. Focusing on history, art, culture, and agriculture, Gammelgården is the singular open-air museum devoted to preserving, presenting, and promoting Swedish immigrant heritage in the United States.
Housed in six buildings on the historic
gammelgården,
or old farm, where the community of Scandia was first established, Gammelgården invites visitors to step back in time, experience the stories of Swedish immigrants, and relate them to their own family immigration stories.
Please scroll down to see information about the museum and gift shop hours; when the historic buildings are open; and guided tours to see inside the historic buildings.

rden Museum of Scandia
is proud to be a part of Blue Star Museums
Blue Star Museums
is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel including the National Guard and Reserve, and their families each summer. The program begins on Armed Forces Day in mid-May and ends on Labor Day at the beginning of September.
The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military–Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard–including Reservists, National Guardsman (regardless of status), U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and up to five family members. Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card for entrance into a participating Blue Star Museum.
The military ID holder and up to five family members are allowed in free per visit. The military ID holder can be either an active duty service member or other dependent family members with the appropriate ID card. The active duty member does not have to be present for family members to use the program. Just bring your DD Form 1173 ID Card, or DD Form 1173-1 ID Card, for active duty military family members.
We look forward to seeing you at Gammelg
