London Craft Week at Museum of the Home
We are excited to present two programmes as part of this years London Craft Week!
Discover the language of chairmaking through the launch of our new free display, Splats and Spindles: Six English Regional Chairs.
During London Craft Week, a
series of Curator Tours are available to book to delve deeper into the stories of regional chair-making, including behind-the-scenes access to our
Collections Store to see more of the unique chairs held in our collection. A
free screening of
RUSH, a short film directed by Lizzie Atherton that follows artist Ella Merriman as she harvests rush in Somerset’s slow flowing rivers, working with the endangered craft of rush basketry, will also be installed on a loop in the Museums’ Studio room.
We are pleased to also host a weekend programme with Vigour and Skills, a platform dedicated to championing contemporary craftsmanship and the people behind it. Engage directly with makers, explore material processes, and experience craft as a living, evolving practice through a free, drop-in exhibition fair, plus a series of live demonstrations and hands-on workshops
London Craft Week
is a city-wide festival celebrating exceptional making, across multiple sectors and disciplines, from around the world. Through its curated programme of events, London Craft Week shines a light on the creative talent behind some of the world’s most beautiful objects, telling stories of their inspiration, process and materials.
Since its inception in 2015, the festival has grown significantly in scale and prominence with hundreds of thousands of visitors enjoying the work of numerous makers at events put on by myriad partners over the years. The festival encourages those who attend to discover hidden workshops, independent makers, heritage craftsmen and jewel-like shops alongside great luxury houses, famous artists and designers, leading department stores, national museums and contemporary galleries. Visitors can embrace the sheer reach, diversity and serendipity that London offers as the world’s great creative capital.
