Fanous was honored for her more than 40 years of advancing pediatric allergy and immunology care in Southern California
Yvonne Fanous
, MD, a pediatric allergist and immunologist at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Dr. Leonard L. Bailey Outstanding Clinician Award, an honor recognizing her more than four decades of service to children and families across the region. She was recognized at the Children’s Hospital’s 33rd annual Foundation Gala on April 2.
Fanous has been part of Loma Linda University Health since 1981, building a career that has shaped Pediatric allergy, Immunology and Pulmonary care in Southern California. Board-certified in Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology, she earned her medical degree and completed residency training at Cairo University Hospital before pursuing additional pediatric training at Loma Linda University Health and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She later completed an allergy and immunology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine.
In 1987, Fanous was appointed division chief of Pediatric Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine at Loma Linda University Health. During her tenure, the division expanded services for children living with complex and chronic conditions, including cystic fibrosis, severe asthma, and other respiratory and immunologic disorders. Many of the subspecialty services available today were developed during that period of growth.
Fanous is also known as a mentor and educator whose influence extends far beyond the hospital. Over the course of her career, she has helped train more than 1,000 pediatricians and another 1,000 medical students, many of whom now practice in communities throughout the United States and abroad.
The Dr. Leonard L. Bailey Outstanding Clinician Award is presented each year to a physician at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital whose career reflects sustained excellence in patient care and a commitment to improving the lives of children.
