From engaging guests in the 3D Studio to working behind the scenes processing memberships, and from copy-editing our exhibition panels to helping out in the museum store, volunteers bring their diverse backgrounds and passions to spark learning, build confidence, and help our visitors unleash their full talent and genius. One-Time Volunteer Opportunities If you are looking for one-time volunteer opportunities, you can sign up for a shift at a museum special event via the links shared below. Special event volunteers may get to help with greeting, gallery attending, facilitating hands-on activities, distributing tickets for films or planetarium shows, and more! Current Volunteer Needs Volunteer Docent Do you love sharing knowledge and sparking curiosity? Interplanetary 5K 2026 Volunteer Volunteers are needed to help this fun family event run smoothly. You can help with packet pick up, awards, water distribution, or even celebrating with runners at the finish line. Learn more about being an Interplanetary 5K volunteer HERE Coming Soon 4th of July Celebration | July 4th, 2026 More details to come! Recurring Volunteer Opportunities If you are looking for recurring volunteer assignments, or want a way to contribute to the museum on a regular basis, consider officially joining our volunteer program. Recurring volunteers become a regular part of the museum team. With training from staff, these volunteers may get to engage guests in the 3D Studio, work behind the scenes to support our membership team, interact with students on field trips, help our visitor services team in the museum store, and more! Ready to Get Involved? The first step to joining the volunteer program at the Peoria Riverfront Museum is to sign up for a volunteer interest meeting. This meeting serves as your museum orientation: you will learn about the museum’s policies and procedures, get an overview of the various volunteer roles available to you, learn how to sign up for volunteer shifts, and get a tour of our facility. Interest meetings are scheduled once a month on a Saturday morning. Following the volunteer interest meeting, a background check will be conducted for anyone 18 and older to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers, our guests, and the objects and artifacts in our care. Once cleared, you will be added to our volunteer mailing list, and will get weekly emails with opportunities to sign up for volunteer shifts at the museum. Email Everley Davis for more information on how to volunteer with the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
