The Pro-Chancellor
Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan was inaugurated as the university’s second Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of The Council during the 48th meeting of the Governing Council of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, on 6th December 2023. He is a well-known legal expert who joined the position with more than thirty years of academic and professional experience.
In addition to his PhD in Law from the University of Jos, Professor Amupitan holds degrees as a Bachelor of Law, Master of Law, and PhD from the same university. He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 and has since grown to be a well-known member of the legal profession.
Before he was appointed the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Amupitan joined the services of the University of Jos in 1989 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to attain the position of Reader in 2003 and Professor in 2008. He was conferred with the revered position of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2014, in recognition of his achievements in the Law profession among many other professional accolades. Professor Amupitan has shown a dedication to academic achievement throughout his career by publishing a large number of articles and guiding a large number of students to complete their degrees.

Reforming laws about the petroleum industry, privatisation, and elections are among his areas of interest.
Professor Amupitan is a seasoned legal eminence who belongs to many professional associations, such as the National Association of Law Teachers and the Nigerian Bar Association.
He hails from the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. He is happily married to Dr (Mrs) Yemisi Amupitan and they are blessed with four kids.
