How
you go to college
matters
Life Design ensures each BGSU student knows
how
to go to college – a skill the
Gallup-Purdue Index
reports to be the greatest indicator of long-term career success and happiness in life.
The Gallup-Purdue Index, a national survey of more than 30,000 graduates from all types of colleges and universities, found that how students went to college had the greatest impact on their current well-being and their careers. Specifically, students who did these six things were far more likely to take advantage of opportunities as undergraduates and find success after graduation.
Six things to do to maximize your experience at Bowling Green:
Make connections with faculty and staff members.
They are eager to help you be successful.
Be curious.
You will have many opportunities to learn about many things, and your Life Design Coach will be there to equip you with the tools to discover what’s available.
Pursue your dreams.
You are attending a comprehensive university with an incredible range of experiences and opportunities. Don’t sell yourself short on what you can accomplish. Dream big, set goals and be bold.
Engage in a long-term project
– one that spans at least a semester – where you can apply what you’re learning in your courses to something personally meaningful. Life Design can support you in making these connections and following through from start to finish.
Actively and intentionally participate in extra-curricular activities.
We have more than 350 student organizations, and there is something for everyone at Bowling Green. Build relationships with your peers and develop leadership and life skills.
Look for opportunities to apply your learning
with an internship, co-op, clinical practicum, student teaching or other hands-on experience. Your Career Design Coach can equip you with the tools to get you started and support you in building professional connections.
These six elements of the college experience are so strongly related to graduates’ lives and careers is almost hard to fathom. When it comes to finding the secret to success, it’s not ‘where you go,’ it’s ‘how you do it’ that makes all the difference in higher education.
The path forward
is
yours to design.
