Adult Audiology
Our highly skilled team of audiologists use a range of tests to assess hearing, and fit hearing aids as necessary.
To access our service as a new patient you need to be referred by your GP or other healthcare professional. This includes patients who have been seen at an NHS Audiology service elsewhere in the UK.
You can be referred directly to NHS Grampian Adult Audiology, by your GP if:
You are aged 18 or over
You are having problems with hearing loss in one or both ears
You are having problems with tinnitus
You have sound sensitivity - intolerance to everyday sounds that causes significant distress and affects day-to-day activities
You have ears which are free from wax, infection, discharge, perforation and skin conditions
If you are experiencing any of following ear problems, please instead ask your GP to refer you to Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) for medical opinion:
Sudden hearing loss in one or both ears (within 72 hours) - this is considered to be a medical emergency so please seek immediate support from either your GP or contact NHS 111.
Rapid onset of hearing loss (90 days or less)
Persistent ear pain affecting either ear (including in and around the ear) that has not responded to first-line treatment
Regular ear infections / ear discharge
Fluctuating hearing loss which is not associated with a cold / flu
Tinnitus which beats in time with your pulse
Vertigo
