Our Childbirth Center offers: Board-certified OB/GYN doctors and specially-trained nurses Private, family-friendly labor and delivery suites Prenatal education, childbirth classes and tours Epidural and pain management through in-house anesthesiologists Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU): 24-hour monitoring of premature babies by specially trained medical teams that include neonatologists, nurse practitioners and other critical care nurses and support staff Advanced newborn monitoring system to ensure the highest level of security Babies who require a higher level of care are transported to a level IV facility. At the hospital, you will be asked to complete the Mother’s Worksheet for Child’s Birth Certificate. You may begin the form at home or complete it during your stay. Our program offers a variety of services to mothers who have questions and concerns about breastfeeding, pumping, medications and more. Our Staff and Services Our lactation consultants are registered nurses, board certified in breastfeeding management, who will provide you with the latest scientific evidence about the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding. They will help you learn the fundamentals of breastfeeding and provide assistance when problems arise. The lactation team provides a full range of services, including: • Hospital-grade electric breast pumps for in-room use (available for rent at discharge) • Inpatient and outpatient lactation consultation • Milk collection and storage supplies Care and Compassion Our knowledgeable, specially trained lactation consultants will visit your room throughout your stay in the postpartum unit. They are ready to work with you to help you provide this valuable form of nutrition to your baby. Lactation Assistance after Discharge If difficulties with breastfeeding arise once at home, our board-certified lactation consultants would be happy to assist you with your breastfeeding journey. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , there are about 3,400 sleep-related deaths among US babies each year. Houston Methodist Childbirth Center at West is recognized by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program as a Gold Safe Sleep Hospital for its commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep. Sleep can be a challenge for families with babies, but following safe sleep recommendations can prevent many SUID fatalities.
