Diabetes in Vermont: Data & Facts
Diabetes is a serious condition that makes your blood sugar too high. You may develop diabetes because your body doesn’t make enough insulin (the hormone that turns food into energy) or because the insulin it makes is not used efficiently. Over time, high blood sugar causes problems in many parts of the body. Diabetes affects people of all ages. There are many types of diabetes with many causes and contributing factors. Diabetes is one of four chronic conditions that contribute to more than 50% of deaths each year in Vermont.
