Officially establishing the university,
The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) Act, 2015 (Act 898):
Section 1(1)
stipulates –
Establishment of UESD
There is established by this Act a body corporate with perpetual succession to be known as the University of Environment and Sustainable Development.

The University shall be established in Somanya with campuses in Donkorkrom and any other place as the Council may determine.

Without limiting its other powers, the University shall have power to award its own degrees including honorary degrees, diplomas and certificates.
