Our Philosophy
Vision
At Flowerdale Primary School, we believe that all students have the right to learn and feel safe in their learning environment. We know that all students have individual needs, and our goal is to work together in partnership to ensure our students experience success in their learning.
Values
The Flowerdale Primary School community has an agreed set of four school values. These are:
Kindness:
At FPS our value of kindness is the practise of being friendly, generous and considerate towards others, treating them with respect, empathy and compassion. It involves doing good deeds, helping those in need and using kind words to make others feel happy and supported, without expecting anything in return.
We show kindness by:
Displaying positive actions: Sharing, helping and including others.
Using our words: Giving compliments, using our manners and speaking politely.
Understanding feelings: Standing up against bullying and using empathy to understand how others feel.
Self-Kindness: Treating ourselves with care and respect.
Empathy:
At FPS our value of empathy means understanding and sharing the feelings and emotions of another person. It involves considering how our own actions can make others feel and thinking about how this might impact the way we behave.
We show empathy by:
Recognising others emotional state or zone and responding with an appropriate action.
Communicating with others to understand how they are feeling.
Patiently listening to understand how others are feeling.
Respect:
At FPS our value of respect means treating people, things and ourselves with care. It means being kind, listening, using our manners, sharing and valuing differences. At FPS we show others respect by making sure everyone feels safe and important.
We show respect by:
Using our manners: Saying please and thank you, excuse me and not name calling.
Listening: Paying attention when others speak and waiting our turn.
Caring for things: Taking care of our own belongings and asking before borrowing others.
Being fair: Playing by the rules and taking turns.
Valuing differences: Accepting people for who they are, even if they are different from us.
Helping others: Offering to help others when they need help.
Integrity:
At FPS our value of integrity means doing the right thing, even when know one is watching. It means being fair, honest and making sure that our actions match our words. At FPS we make good choices, tell the truth, show responsibility and treat others with respect – even if we don’t always agree.
We show integrity by:
Being Honest – Telling the truth, even if we might get in trouble.
Being consistent: Walking the talk and acting in line with our values.
Showing trustworthiness: Being reliable so others can depend on us.
Showing responsibility: Taking ownership of our actions.
