Student Counseling Services
College is an exciting and challenging time. It can also be stressful because students
are transitioning to a new stage in life. Due to these challenges in life, students
may experience an increase in stress, anxiety, or depression. Students do not need
to figure out how to cope with these challenges by themselves. The counselor encourages
students to stop by or call so we can determine how to be most helpful.

Individual counseling involves meeting with a clinician on a one on one basis. Counseling
is a collaborative process in which you and your counselor will work together to address
concerns in your life and create goals that will help you live the life you want to
live.
Your first counseling session is an initial assessment. During the first meeting you
will be required to complete paperwork which will provide your counselor with basic
demographic information and identify your areas of concern. You and your counselor
will also discuss specific concerns and relevant information to determine the best
level of care. At the end of the session you and your counselor will discuss any specific
recommendations.
Short term counseling services are available to students at no cost.
Counseling services adhere to professional ethical standards and all state and federal
laws regarding confidentiality. Once you have come to the office, we will not disclose
any information without your written consent. The records at the counseling center
are kept confidential and not a part of your permit college record without written
consent. Confidentiality does not apply if the counselor believes that you are at
an imminent danger to yourself or others.
