Festivities began with a Multicultural Showcase during which students shared various items representative of their identity and culture. These included traditional dress, works of art, musical instruments, books, maps, flags, card games, dance, and more. Attendees were given passports and had stickers affixed to them after visiting each corresponding table. Next, 18 different countries/regions were represented at the Multicultural Showcase, and 14 different cuisines were shared at the Food Fair during lunch periods. Members of the school community purchased wristbands to participate in the fair which featured delicious catered food which was donated from members of the school community. Thank you also to our Mercy Guild for serving the cuisine during the Fair! Aashrita Banerjee '26 said, "Multicultural Day is important to me because it gives our school the opportunity to celebrate the wide variety of traditions, perspectives, and stories that make each of us unique. At the Mount, where community and faith are central, this day gives us the chance to both share our own heritages and learn from one another. In doing so, it creates a space where every culture is recognized as an essential part of our school community." "As co-president of the Mount's Students of Color Affinity Group (SOCA), I’ve seen how meaningful it is to create spaces where students feel seen and valued for who they are," added Aashrita. "While SOCA works to build that sense of support and connection throughout the year, Multicultural Day offers a joyful celebration that brings the entire school together." "Multicultural Day is such an important event at the Mount because it showcases the wide variety of students' cultures. It is a great time to celebrate the diverse backgrounds and traditions that make our community unique," said Uzoma Ononiwu '27 . Learning about cultures different from your own helps you grow as a person and gain new perspectives. Being involved in events like this is meaningful because it shows appreciation for others and creates a deeper sense of connection. After participating in Multicultural Day my freshman year, I saw how sharing different cultures can truly bring people together." Madeline Albrittain, World Languages Department Chairperson and Spanish Teacher, said, "Multicultural Day is a meaningful opportunity for our students to celebrate the many cultures that shape our community. I’m so proud of those who participated in the Showcase and shared their heritage in engaging, creative, and meaningful ways. Thank you to Sister Lisa, Administration, the Mercy Guild and the Faculty and Staff for continuing to support Multicultural Day."
