The undergraduate Nursing Program provides a broad-based arts and sciences curriculum that prepares students as generalists to enter the profession of nursing. After successfully completing the program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam in order to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse.
Separate admission is required into the upper division program. Prerequisite courses required before admission into the program are taken during the first two undergraduate years. Applications are submitted by qualified students during the sophomore spring semester for acceptance into the program the following fall. Only one cohort enters the upper division program each fall semester. Currently, the program is licensed for 69 students combining the 1
st
year and 2
nd
year cohorts.
OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Our students gain valuable hands-on experience by working within the local communities in hospitals, mental health facilities, end of life care, home health care, public school systems, community health, nursing homes and wound care.
Students participate in poverty simulation, community clinics, public school clinics, health fairs, and a variety of community outreach opportunities and small individual lab experiences.

The RN has the opportunity to work in a variety of direct hands-on patient care and indirect care of patients through interdisciplinary support in management and administration. According to ACEN (2020) Report to Constituents: 2019, ACEN-accredited BSN programs have a 92.11% job placement rate for 2018-2019.

Wingate University currently does not have nursing graduate programs; however, our students are advised by well-qualified nursing faculty who hold graduate degrees and have 50+ years of combined nursing experience. This knowledge and experience will guide students with beneficial information to acquire a higher level of nursing education.

While at Wingate University, I discovered my passion for working in cardiac related units. This paired with my love for critical situations allowed me to find a unit that fit me best!

What I enjoyed most about being a student in the Nursing Program at Wingate University was the small class sizes. I was provided with one-on-one professor instruction and many opportunities for hands on learning. As a labor and delivery nurse today I feel that Wingate contributed greatly to my nursing practice and career.

Enrollment in a Wingate University Levine College of Health Sciences program requires current and appropriate legal immigration status with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services of the United States Department of Homeland Security. Current and appropriate legal immigration statuses include United States citizenship, United States lawful permanent residence, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and other legal immigration statuses that allow participation in lawful study at Wingate University and employment authorization in the United States. Applicants must demonstrate current and appropriate legal immigration status to Wingate University authorities.
Many programs require clinical placements at third party health care facilities as a graduation requirement. Although Wingate University uses its best efforts to place all students in a clinical setting, Wingate University cannot guarantee that the third party health care facility will permit students without U.S. citizenship or permanent residency to complete their training at the facility. Additionally, postgraduate employment in the United States in health sciences occupations normally requires that applicants pass national exams, obtain state licensure, and demonstrate authorization for employment in the United States. Criteria for eligibility for national exams and/or to qualify for state licensure are set by national boards and each state. It is the responsibility of each prospective Levine College of Health Sciences student to consult the requirements of national boards and the licensing authority in each state in which they plan to pursue employment to determine the qualifications for licensure and their eligibility to become licensed. National and state licensure requirements are subject to change.
