Please join me in expressing our deepest respect and gratitude to our five major Indigenous groups; the Northern Paiute, the Shoshone, the Southern Paiute, the Washoe and the Mojave — not just the original caretakers of the land we now call Nevada — but for their resiliency and enduring stewardship and protection of our shared lands and waterways. Today, the Department of Native American Affairs reaffirms its commitment to improve the quality of life for our 28 Indigenous Nations, Bands, Colonies, and the 62,000-plus Urban Indians who choose to make Nevada their current home.”

The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum
Remembering our history gives us strength as we look forward. The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum serves as a bridge between past and present by showcasing artwork, photographs, and stories of students from over 200 Tribes include those in the Great Basin who were part of the school’s complicated history.
