Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP)
Grant Overview
The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). LSAMP supports alliances between institutions of higher education and other organizations to increase STEM degrees for LSAMP populations and support research on STEM participation and broader impacts.
The
North Star STEM Alliance
, the Minnesota branch of the national LSAMP program, is dedicated to increasing STEM degree attainment. Through partnerships with higher education institutions and support from the NSF and 3M, we provide stipends, research funding, travel opportunities, networking opportunities, industry site visits, STEM career exploration, and more to help our undergraduate students succeed in STEM fields.
Core Ideas of the Alliance
Develop strong connections to tutoring, mentoring and study group support
Engage students to professional opportunities and scientific professional societies
Connect faculty, students and professionals in STEM
On the Morris campus there are multiple ways we support our North Start students. We help provide access to academic support and prepare you for graduate school through research opportunities, workshops and travel to professional conferences along with alliance wide events such as the North Star STEM Alliance Research Symposium.

Research Opportunities
The North Star STEM Alliance (NSSA) supports our students to seek out undergraduate research opportunities here at Morris and beyond. These are opportunities to engage with faculty on their research during the summer and sometimes during the fall and spring semesters. We try and find research opportunities in a wide range of areas.

NSSA Summer Research at UMN Morris
NSSA is pleased to offer the opportunity of undergraduate research on the Morris campus for summer 2019.
Summer research with UMN Science and Math faculty includes a stipend $1500 for five weeks of research plus a housing allowance of $350 or $3000 for ten weeks and $700 for housing. Travel expenses are included for projects that require travel including international travel.
