Dean Message
In the context of Pakistan, we have a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-linguistic society. In such a diversified society, Social Sciences play their significant roles by bridging the gap between various segments of population. Research in Social Sciences helps to indentify the need for reforms in sectors which are critical for the development of society. It also helps to address the challenges and identify possible solutions for country’s political, social and economic development, such as inter-ethnic relations, protection of marginalized groups, good governance, nation building and state building. Social Sciences can also contribute to achieve sustainable environment by framing research questions and inquiring them scientifically. Within and outside countries, knowledge needs to be gathered to have a better understanding of the problems. Social Sciences also help to identify the direction of the change that countries really need. Social Sciences perform analytical functions in the society regarding power structure, social stakeholders, inequalities, social injustice, discrimination, urban planning, community development etc.
Introduction
Social Science deals with the human behavior and socio-cultural aspects of the society. Social Sciences cover a wide range of subjects including Economics, Education, History and Pakistan Studies, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology and Sociology. These departments under Faculty of Social Sciences are providing the source of learning the social and cultural context, relation of education to social orders, studying the histories of different countries of the world, national and international context of the politics and relations, economics of the country and society and human behavior. The students are being engaged in innovative and interactive educational experience and are enabled to apply the academic concepts to the contemporary world issues.
Vision
The vision of Faculty of Social Sciences at University of Gujrat is to attain the excellence by guiding and assisting the students in developing their capacity of critical thinking and analysis and self and social awareness. The faculty also seeks to promote the multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach for the growth of intellectual capacity of the students, to inculcate ethical values among them, and to guide their behavior for the community services and development.
Mission
The mission of Faculty of Social Sciences is to promote the self awareness, socio economic, cultural, political and political development by producing such graduates who would be responsible citizens and contribute for the advancement of the society. Faculty of Social Sciences also aims at advancement of intellectual leadership through teaching, research and innovation.
