Nurture Network
The Nurture Network – promoting and developing nurturing practices in schools
The Nurture Network aims to promote and develop nurturing practices in schools. It provides a termly space for school staff wishing to grow and develop nurturing practices to meet, share best practice, contribute to professional development and provide reflective support to colleagues.
What do we mean by Nurture?
The nurturing approach offers a range of opportunities for children and young people to engage with missed early learning experiences. It supports them to develop the social and emotional skills to do well at school and with peers, develop their resilience and their capacity to deal more confidently with the trials and tribulations of life.
Nurturing practices are guided by the Six Principles of Nurture* which are:
Children’s learning is understood developmentally.
The classroom/school offers a safe base.
Nurture is important for the development of well-being.
Language is understood as a vital means of communication.
All behaviour is communication.
Transitions are significant in the lives of children.
What will being part of the Nurture Network look like?
The Nurture Network gives you the opportunity to meet once a term with professionals from other schools or settings working in nurture groups or developing nurturing practices across early years, primary or secondary schools. Each afternoon session will be structured to have a CPD input, opportunities to learn from colleagues and a reflective practice component.
* The Six Principles of Nurture were developed by educational professionals Eva Holmes and Eve Boyd (1999)
