Welcome Address by the hod
You are welcome to the Department of Agronomy (crop and soil science). We offer training and services in all aspects of Agronomy; Crop science, crop protection and soil science. The Department has a strong team of academic staff distinguished in their areas, with a strong research focus, contributing to knowledge development and innovation in Agriculture. It delivers high quality teaching and mentorship to all categories of her students from the undergraduate joint Degree Bachelor of Agriculture, offered in collaboration with sister Departments, to its Postgraduate Diploma, masters, and PhD. The Department prepares its students for careers in Agriculture with a global perspective, to compete anywhere in the globe. We serve our community by offering Agricultural advice and solutions that meet their needs. So whether you are a prospective student or partner or in need of Agronomic advice and guidance, you are welcome to the Department of Agronomy. Let us know how we can help.

Our Mission
To deliver high-quality, academic programs capable of producing sought‐after graduates for their potential to solve state, national, and global agricultural challenges for improved food security; and to lead and deliver innovative science, through research in Agricultural production and techniques

Our Objectives
The Department intends to achieve the following objectives;
To be directly engaged in the creation, transmission of periodic evaluation of knowledge delivery in the pursuit of excellence in academic scholarship and intellectual inquiry through teaching, research and public service.
To train student teachers that will be proud to be called teachers, that will also be good role models to those behind them.
To equip them with the qualities of a good teacher
To rise professional and well qualified guidance counsellors that will advise and counsel students on how to handle emerging child and adolescence problems.
To train secondary school teachers that will handle students with diverse forms of disabilities (Deaf, blind, cripple, etc.) in order for them to live a fulfilled life in the society knowing fully well that there is disability in ability.
To expose the students to the relationship between school and society where it exists, the inter-relationship between education and other social institution (family, religious, political, economical and health).
To prepare the minds of student teachers on the impact of a child’s family socio-economic status in life.
To explain how different forms of agents of socialization can make or mar a student’s life.
To expose the students’ teachers to the skill of setting questions, marking and grading of students.
To expose the students’ teachers on how the personality of an individual can affect his/her choices, interests, potentials and attainment in life.
To explain the importance of the knowledge of emotional and social intelligence to a teacher in their dealings with those around them.
To unveil to the students’ the factors responsible for designing the curriculum contents of the school.
