You should consult with an ENT doctor if you have any problems with your ears, nose or throat. Some common reasons to see an ENT include hearing loss, sinus infections, nasal congestion, allergies, swallowing disorders, a deviated septum and sleep apnea. However, it is prudent to consult with an ENT if you have any symptoms with your head and neck or ear, nose and throat that are interfering with your quality of life.
The ENT doctor (otolaryngologist) will evaluate your symptoms and may order tests to determine the cause of your problem. These may include a physical exam, imaging scans or laboratory tests. Once the diagnosis is made, the Houston Methodist ENT team will discuss treatment options with you. If surgery is necessary, we will explain what to expect before, during and after the procedure.
An ENT, also called an otolaryngologist, is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat and head and neck. They are commonly referred to as ENTs.
