Digital Accessibility
At the University of Rhode Island, we are committed to building inclusive environments that reflect our shared values. As a public land- and sea-grant institution, accessibility is central to our mission—ensuring all members of our community can fully engage with the information, opportunities, and experiences we provide.
Digital accessibility is a key part of that commitment. From websites and social media to course materials and documents, the content we create must be usable by everyone.
On June 24, 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice updated Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, adopting WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the standard for websites and mobile applications. These updates underscore the need for consistent, proactive accessibility practices.
Since 2023, the University’s Digital Accessibility Working Group has expanded resources and support across campus. That work is outlined in the compliance plan available on this site. If you create or manage digital content on behalf of the University, you’ll find guidance and tools here to help meet both our shared commitments and legal obligations—and to ensure our digital presence is accessible to all.
