Immunisation of Children
In an effort to reduce the incidence of infections and deaths, and to eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases, the Ministry of Health offers immunisation for all children in The Bahamas.
Children under one year of age are vaccinated against Diphtheria, Pertusis, Tetanus, Haemophilus Influenza type b (hib), Hepatitis B and poliomyelitis. At age one, children are inoculated against measles, mumps and rubella.
Immunity is maintained in nursery, preschool, primary and secondary aged children, and may be done at schools in addition to healthcare facilities.
Eligibility
Any child who is registered at the Department of Public Health clinics or enrolled in the Bahamas education system is entitled to immunisation.
Process
In the first 28 days of a baby’s life, a Department of Public Health nurse visits or contacts the baby’s mother and gives the mother an appointment for the baby’s first immunization visit. Once this appointment is received the process is as follows:
Visit the clinic with the baby at the appointed time
Participate in an interview and examination
Receive vaccine
Obtain return appointment, along with immunization
Keep all subsequent appointments and bring immunization card to each visit

Immunisation record (children born abroad)
Supporting Documents
National legal identification – passport or birth certificate
Medical records number (If going to a Department of Public Health clinic)
Immunisation records (If going to a Department of Public Health clinic)
Turn-around time
This varies by the number of patients at the clinic, but is usually under 4 hours.

Immunisation of Children
In an effort to reduce the incidence of infections and deaths, and to eliminate vaccine-preventable diseases, the Ministry of Health offers immunisation for all children in The Bahamas.
Children under one year of age are vaccinated against Diphtheria, Pertusis, Tetanus, Haemophilus Influenza type b (hib), Hepatitis B and poliomyelitis. At age one, children are inoculated against measles, mumps and rubella.
Immunity is maintained in nursery, preschool, primary and secondary aged children, and may be done at schools in addition to healthcare facilities.
Eligibility
Any child who is registered at the Department of Public Health clinics or enrolled in the Bahamas education system is entitled to immunisation.
Process
In the first 28 days of a baby’s life, a Department of Public Health nurse visits or contacts the baby’s mother and gives the mother an appointment for the baby’s first immunization visit. Once this appointment is received the process is as follows:
Visit the clinic with the baby at the appointed time
Participate in an interview and examination
Receive vaccine
Obtain return appointment, along with immunization
Keep all subsequent appointments and bring immunization card to each visit

National legal identification – passport or birth certificate
Medical records number (If going to a Department of Public Health clinic)

This varies by the number of patients at the clinic, but is usually under 4 hours.
