Our impactful partnership
with WaterAid
Since our collaboration began in 2011, Belu has committed to giving 100% net profits to WaterAid. These funds are entirely unrestricted so WaterAid has the freedom to spend them where they are needed most. That means the most urgent and important projects can be prioritised and it’s one of the things that makes our partnership so special. Together we’re working towards SDG’s 6, 12 and 13 so that everyone, everywhere, has clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.
703 Million
people globally still live without clean water.
1 in 5
don’t have a decent toilet of their own.
635 Million
people globally don’t have a place to wash their hands at home.
OVER A MILLION
women and newborn babies die each year from preventable infections linked to births in unclean places.
Over £6.5M given
to WaterAid since 2011
The money we give to WaterAid helps fund their work in 22 countries, working alongside communities so that everyone, everywhere has clean water. Water is the foundation for good health and a life full of opportunity. Along with decent toilets and good hygiene, clean water means people can break free from poverty and build the lives they want, with dignity.
FULLY UNRESTRICTED FUNDING
We give to WaterAid on a flexible funding basis (also known as unrestricted funding) which means WaterAid allocates the money where it’s most needed and can have the greatest impact. This method of funding provides WaterAid with the flexibility to effectively pursue their mission, freedom to innovate, financial security to plan ahead and a greater ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
In the Analamanga region of Madagascar, flexible funding has enabled WaterAid to build toilets and handwashing facilities in schools and health centres. It has also helped them engage people at a local, regional and national level to establish strong systems for planning, monitoring and regulating services for the long-term.
When emergency situations occur, such as a flood or disease outbreak, WaterAid can also use flexible funds to quickly respond to challenging situations. In May 2024, WaterAid used unrestricted funds to respond quickly to provide communities with clean drinking water when cyclone Remal brought flooding to Patuakhali district, Bangladesh.
