Process of Application: Volunteering at ALF

No requests will be entertained through phone calls, references etc. All applications are to follow the same process to ensure parity and fair and equal treatment.
There is no minimum/maximum qualification for a volunteer. As long as the volunteer is willing to give time and learn such that ALF mutually benefits from this relationship, a volunteer application can be considered.
Every volunteer will commit to a fixed number of days and hours of work at the start of the duration and strictly adhere to it.
Every volunteer shall put in a minimum of three hours of work on three days of the week that has been agreed upon.
The volunteer shall communicate the work hours to be followed by them prior to the start of the duration and strictly adhere to it.
Volunteers can volunteer their time towards litigation, research, advocacy work based on the interest communicated by them. They are expected to maintain confidentiality of clients, court files, and meetings that they may have access to. No litigation files can be removed from the office premises without specific reasons being recorded by way of email for the same.
Volunteers can use the office premises and the library in the office. In using the library for borrowing of books, the volunteers are to strictly follow the procedure of issuing put in place by the librarian.
At the successful completion of their volunteering period, they will be provided with a letter of volunteering. The volunteer point of contact shall ensure that at the end of their volunteering period all books are returned and reimbursements settled. If requested the period of volunteering can be extended subject to discussion in the MMM and review of the work undertaken by the volunteer.
An individual can volunteer for the maximum duration of 8 weeks with ALF. This is to ensure that more individuals are able to access the opportunities at ALF. If the volunteers so wishes, then this duration of 8 weeks is subject to extension based on a discussion with the collective.
Each volunteer application shall be discussed and decided upon in the Monday Morning Meeting. During the MMM the collective members will assess the application based on need of the organisation, time that can be given to work with the volunteer and specifying who is the point of contact for each volunteer.
Depending on the decision in the MMM, in case of acceptance of application all communication regarding the terms of the volunteering – working hours, duration, expectations, point of contact along with the volunteering policy are to be emailed to the volunteer. In case of rejection of the application, reasons for rejection are to be specified and emailed.
The volunteer shall be expected to report to this point of contact who will be a link between the volunteer and the collective regarding work hours, leaves, completion of tasks etc.
Every volunteer is responsible for and required to complete all and any task undertaken by them during the course of their work, failure to complete tasks will lead to withholding of Letter of Volunteering.
No monetary compensation or stipend shall be provided to volunteers.
However, travel undertaken to and fro office for the purposes of work shall be reimbursed upon submission of necessary travel bills. Travel from home to office and vice versa is not eligible for reimbursement.
All volunteers are actively encouraged to participate in the Friday Forum discussions that will be held at the office.
