The Detroit Health Department has been providing important public health services to Detroiters for over 100 years. Its mission is to address public and population health priorities of Detroiters.
The Health Department has three major offices: Population Health, Clinical Services and Outreach, and Administration and Organizational Development. Each office works collaboratively with external partners and the community to create a public health system that supports the health of Detroiters across their lifespan.

Behavioral Health Program
The Behavioral Health Program is committed to supporting Detroit residents facing mental health and substance misuse challenges. We provide behavioral and mental health training, substance misuse education, harm reduction strategies, and Naloxone education and distribution. Our team conducts outreach to residents, businesses, and organizations throughout the city to increase awareness and access to lifesaving resources. Our goal is to reduce stigma, remove barriers to care, and empower individuals to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Detroit ID
The Detroit ID is an identification card that benefits ALL Detroiters. Regardless of your immigration status, whether you are homeless, or a returning citizen, the Detroit ID is yours. Use it to access City services, interact with your police department, open a checking/savings account, and to receive discounts at dozens of businesses across Detroit.
The Detroit ID Card ensures that all Detroiters have a means of identifying themselves with a photo ID card so they are able to access services in the City of Detroit. The Detroit ID card provides users with a means of identification so they can open a checking/savings account, gain entry to City of Detroit buildings and establish utility accounts with DTE and Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.
The Detroit ID Card may be presented as a form of photo ID when applying for a voter registration card, so long as it is accompanied by a signed, sworn affidavit affirming applicant’s identity, residency and U.S. (or naturalized) citizenship.

Childhood Lead Prevention Program
The Childhood Lead Prevention Program seeks to eliminate childhood lead poisoning by increasing awareness regarding the hazards and sources of lead, identifying, and caring for children from birth through six years of age and pregnant women who have elevated blood lead levels (EBLL) and identifying and eliminating sources of lead exposure.
The Childhood Lead Prevention Program provides lead case management, non-nursing case management, lead education & testing (capillary/venous confirmatory), referrals to community & health care partners as well as referrals for lead abatement & inspection.
