Paying your tuition fees as an overseas student
Before you enrol
If you are a new overseas student, your tuition fee and the amount you need to pay will be stated in the letter we send offering you a place at Birmingham City University.
Step 1: Pay your £1,000 deposit
If you are a new overseas student to the University, then you will need to pay an application deposit of £1,000 to secure your place.
Step 2: Pay your 50% deposit
Once you have passed your pre-CAS interview (where applicable) and uploaded all your CAS essential documents, you need to pay the FULL 50% of your gross tuition fees (minus your initial deposit of £1,000) to receive your Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter and meet the financial requirements of the enrolment process. See our
guidance on getting your CAS
for more information.
Pay your deposit by card or bank transfer
After you have enrolled
Once you have enrolled at BCU, you will need to pay the remaining balance of your tuition fees. You can do this in several ways:
1. Pay in full,
within ten weeks of your course starting.
2. Set up an instalment plan
, where the University will collect the payments from your bank and spread the cost over three instalments, on the following pre-set dates in each term.
For September 2026 entry:
1 December 2026
– 20% of your outstanding balance
1 February 2027
– 40% of your outstanding balance
3 May 2027
– 40% of your outstanding balance
For January 2027 entry:
31 March 2027
– 20% of your outstanding balance
30 June 2027
– 40% of your outstanding balance
27 August 2027
– 40% of your outstanding balance
3. Pay your remaining fees in flexible instalments.
If you start your studies in September, this will mean you will need to have paid your tuition fees in full by the start of the following May, and for January by the start of September. If you choose this option, you will still need to pay a proportion of your total tuition fee by specific dates in each academic year. Having already paid 50%, you now need to pay:
At least 10%
of your course fee (or 20% of your balance outstanding) must be paid in the first semester, by the date specified for that academic year (meaning 60% of your gross tuition fee need to be paid)
A further 20%
of your course fee (or 40% of your balance outstanding) must be paid by the start of the second semester, by the date specified (meaning 80% of your gross tuition fees need to be paid)
The remaining 20%
of your course fee or 40% of your balance outstanding must be paid by the start of the third semester, by the date specified. (meaning 100% of your fees will now be paid)
In all cases, you will need to make a payment towards your tuition fees
within 10 weeks of your course starting.
If a payment is not received, a block will be applied to your student account.
If you have still not made a payment after nine weeks, you will be removed from your course.
