About the Department
Department of English was established in the year 1994.
B. A. English Literature with C.A. was started in the year 2003 & the programme was converted into B.A. English Literature in the year 2012.
M. A. English Literature was started in the year 2006.
M. Phil in English (FT/PT) was introduced in the year 2013. It is in progress from 2013 onwards.
Ph.D in English (PT) was introduced in the year 2018. It is in progress from 2018 onwards.
Vision
To empower rural women through English competency so that they will be able to contribute their best, on par with men, in various domains of social endeavour, rural or urban.
Mission
To enable rural women to be on par with their urban counterparts by imparting communicative and literary skills in English and helping them to function as effective bilinguals in society.

To recognize and appreciate the real-world context of knowledge
To practice creative thinking and expression
To demonstrate the capacity to argue in innovative direction
To demonstrate the ability to compare and contrast different processes, modes of thought, and modes of expression from different historical time periods and in different geographic areas.
To articulate the relations among culture, history and texts.
B.A. PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)
The Bachelor of English Literature program aims:
To help students to have a strong foundation in English Literature and develop comprehension knowledge of literary history and theories
To facilitate and encourage students to read wisely, acquire knowledge of English Literature from various parts of the world
To make students proficient in oral and written communication.
To develop communicative competency and enable them to communicate in academic, corporate and government domains.
To identify language variations (formal/informal, American/British) and use the appropriate variety in a given context.
To help students develop critical and analytical skills in interpreting literary texts.
To assist the students from rural area in acquiring intellectual and personal skills which are transferable to a wide range of employment contexts and life experiences.

To demonstrate a detailed knowledge and understanding of selected fields of study in core disciplines in the humanities, social sciences and languages.
To work effectively in groups to meet a shared goal with people whose disciplinary and cultural backgrounds differ from their own.
To work with independence, self reflection and creativity to meet goals and challenges in the workplace and personal life.
To articulate the relationship between diverse forms of knowledge and the social, historical and cultural contexts.

The Master of English Literature program aims:
To develop students’ literary competence and to enable them to read, analyze and interpret global literature.
To help students to undertake research in the any of the 3 streams of English Studies, Literature, Applied Linguistics & ELT.
To prepare the students to seek careers in various fields including teaching or work freelance as translators and media persons, etc.
