The Mining Institute is the Royal Chartered membership organisation for science and technology in the North. Founded in 1852 by the most important contemporary Northern scientists and engineers, by becoming a member you can follow in their footsteps to help shape the future of industrial heritage and cutting-edge science in the North.

NEIMME Annual Dinner and Symposium 2025 - 18th-19th of September 2025
The Institute is delighted to annouce its Annual Symposium and accompanying Members Dinner, this year held in conjunction with ABMEC (the trade Association for British Mining Engineering and Consultancy).
The dinner will be held in the evening of the 18th of Spetember, with the Symposium during the day of the 19th of September which will cover topical issues in Engineering and furture developments in engineering in the North of England.

The Institute fulfils its Royal Charter by organising events on the cutting edge of science and technology - not just mining and mechanical engineering - we organise a range of events across the natural and physical sciences which are open to our members and the public.

NEIMME Lectures
showcase the latest in academic and professional achievements, we have a number of
Joint Events
with other Learned and Professional Societies and Institutes across the British Isles and our
Younger Members Group
oversee our events programme for Early Career Professionals and Researchers.
