Notations for Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS Notations)
The Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) has introduced voluntary notations for Singapore ships to drive and promote sustainable shipping, digital transformation and seafarers well-being. The SRS Notations serve to encourage SRS ship owners, operators and
managers to adopt solutions to enhance Singapore ships’ safety, security, environmental protection, operational efficiency as well as crew well-being.
The four categories of notations are:
Green
Cyber
Smart
Welfare
Upon review of applications received, Singapore ships that qualify will be awarded with the applicable notation(s) and issued with a Certificate of Recognition.Ship owners, operators or managers should submit the completed application form and checklists
along with the supporting documents to
SRSnotation@mpa.gov.sg

SRS Notations Award List
MPA will like to commend the efforts of all stakeholders that have applied and qualified for the SRS Notation(s).

SRS Green notation is introduced to encourage Singapore ships to adopt technologies and/or use low or zero carbon fuel to reduce their carbon intensity. This notation is sub-categorised into:
Green (Carbon Reduction CR)
Green (Low Carbon LC)
Green (Zero Carbon ZC)
SRS Green (CR)
SRS Green (CR) will be awarded to Singapore ships that have reduced their carbon intensity to a level that exceeds IMO’s EEDI phase 3 requirements by at least 10%. The table below shows the reduction factors for the different ship types to qualify for the SRS Green (CR) and SRS Green (CR+).

* The reduction factor is to be linearly interpolated between the two values dependent upon ship size. The lower value of the reduction factor is to be applied to the smaller ship size.
Please see the examples below on the qualifying criteria:
Example 1:
A 30,000 DWT bulk carrier constructed has attained a reduction factor of 48% relative to the EEDI reference line. This bulk carrier will be awarded with SRS Green (CR).
Example 2:
A 150,000 DWT container ship has attained a reduction factor of 67% relative to the EEDI reference line. This container ship will be awarded with SRS Green (CR+).
Example 3:
A 4,000DWT general cargo ship’s required EEDI is 2.5%. She has attained a reduction factor of 15% relative to the EEDI reference line. This general cargo ship will be awarded with SRS Green (CR).
SRS Green (LC)
SRS Green (LC) will be awarded to Singapore ships that use low carbon fuel as primary fuel for main engine and/or auxiliary engine(s) with CF  (Conversion factor between fuel consumption and CO2 emission) equal to or lower than LNG.
Please refer to the table below for the list of fuels and their CF is based on the table provided in Resolution MEPC.308(73) Section 2.2.1 (CF: Conversion factor between fuel consumption and CO2 emission).

Note: Only Methanol and Ethanol have lower CF than LNG.
SRS Green (ZC)
SRS Green (ZC) will be awarded to Singapore ships that use zero carbon fuel as primary fuel for main engine and/or auxiliary engine. Zero carbon fuels include but are not limited to Hydrogen, Ammonia, etc.
Singapore ships that are fully electric or using fuel cell with aero carbon fuel will be awarded with SRS Green (ZC).
The SRS Cyber Notation is introduced to encourage Singapore ships to adopt advanced cyber security measures to protect the shipboard Operational Technology (OT) systems that are vulnerable to cyber-attacks. The four main OT systems that are vulnerable to cyber-attacks have been identified as the following:
Communication Systems
Propulsion, Machinery & Power Control Systems
Navigation Systems
Cargo Management Systems
The OT systems are further categorised into its sub-systems. Please refer to the checklist for more details. The cyber risks for each sub-system are classified under 3 security tiers as follows:
Tier 1
: High risk cyber-attacks that affect vulnerable and easily exploitable OT sub-systems, with large impact to vessel operations
Tier 2
: Medium risk cyber-attacks that can be repeated frequently, with moderate impact to vessel operations
Tier 3
: Low risk cyber-attacks that have a small chance of exploiting OT sub-systems, with small impact to vessel operations
Awarding Criteria
The SRS Cyber Notation is sub-categorised to SRS Cyber Basic, SRS Cyber Intermediate and SRS Cyber Advanced. The Cyber Notation will be awarded to Singapore ships based on the mitigating measures taken to manage the different tiers of cyber risk.
SRS Cyber Basic
The vessel has all the mitigation measures adopted to manage all Tier 1 cyber risks. All 41 Tier 1 checklist items are to be complied with.
SRS Cyber Intermediate
The vessel has all the mitigation measures to manage Tier 1 and Tier 2 cyber risks. All 41 Tier 1 and 28 Tier 2 checklist items are to be complied with.
SRS Cyber Advanced
The vessel has all the mitigation measures adopted to manage Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cyber risks. All 76 checklist items are to be complied with.
SRS Smart (Remote Inspection) Notation
SRS Smart (Remote Inspection) is introduced to encourage Singapore ships to equip itself with suitable communication network onboard to facilitate remote inspection, survey and audit to be carried out by FSC inspectors, class surveyors, class auditors, company internal auditors, etc. This notation is sub-categorised into SRS Smart R, SRS Smart R+ and SRS Smart R++.
Network Coverage
Both existing ships and new ships shall be provided with network installation onboard to qualify for this notation. Network coverage shall be able to sustain video calls and voice calls with minimal disruption. Portable network devices such as portable wifi, routers, extenders or amplifiers may be used in working spaces not located in accommodation superstructure and enclosed spaces.
Awarding Criteria
The SRS Smart (Remote Inspection) Notation is sub-categorised to SRS Smart R, SRS Smart R+ and SRS Smart R++.
SRS Smart R
Ships applying for SRS Smart R shall be equipped with suitable network coverage on board the vessel covering minimally the following areas:
Bridge
Crew accommodation spaces
Deck cargo control room
Open deck within the accommodation superstructure
SRS Smart R+
Ships certified for SRS Smart R+ shall be equipped with suitable network coverage on board the vessel covering the areas listed in SRS Smart R as well as the following areas:
Engine room
Steering gear room
Open deck (full coverage including forward and aft stations)
Main deck spaces, i.e. bosun and forepeak store, midship store, as applicable
Underdeck areas, i.e. underdeck passageway, pilot embarkation areas, bow thruster room, emergency fire pump room, as applicable
All car decks, as applicable
Pump room and ballast treatment system room, as applicable
SRS Smart R++
Ships certified for SRS Smart R++ shall be equipped with suitable network coverage on board the vessel covering the areas listed in SRS Smart R, SRS Smart R++ as well as the following areas:
Water ballast tanks, as applicable
Cargo holds/tanks, as applicable
SRS Smart (Automation) Notation
SRS Smart (Automation) is assigned to SRS that use digital solutions and increased system connectivity to optimize vessels' operations and reduction in environmental footprint.
Awarding Criteria
Achieving any one of the three Smart categories grants the ship the SMART (Automation).
SRS Smart PMS
SRS Smart PMS is awarded to vessels that have implemented digital solutions for timely monitoring and diagnostic assistance for machinery propulsion (main engine), power (auxiliary engines) and auxiliary machinery monitoring and control. Examples include data-driven analytics to predict onset of condition degradation, intelligent Planned Maintenance System (PMS) that covers overall ship machinery maintenance schedule and trend records for condition-based monitoring.
SRS Smart EEP
SRS Smart EEP is awarded to vessels that have implemented systems that enhances Energy Efficiency and Performance (EEP). Examples of these include real time performance monitoring and tuning of electronic main engine and automatic variable speed main seawater pump control.
SRS Smart H&S
SRS Smart H&S is awarded to vessels that have implemented monitoring and diagnostic assistance for Hull & Structure (H&S). Examples includes automatic motion monitoring and forecasting based on calculation of vessel motion response based on weather forecast with vessel load.
SRS Smart (Autonomous) Notation
SRS Smart (Autonomous) is introduced to encourage Singapore ships to move towards leveraging and adopting new technologies to develop autonomous vessels and enhance operations in a safer, faster and more cost-effective manner to build resilience in the shipping industry. In line with the IMO regulatory framework for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS), the notation is sub-categorised into four (4) different levels of autonomy and two (2) technology readiness level as follows:

To qualify for the SRS Smart (Autonomous), Singapore ships will have to  minimally demonstrate her autonomous navigation capabilities and level of technology readiness.

Example 1:
A 28m tugboat has conducted sea trials at a controlled/sanitised environment to demonstrate that she is able to perform autonomous navigation with seafarers onboard. Trials reports and data collected able to correspond with the defined trial objectives. The tugboat will be awarded with the following notation: SRS Smart D2B
Example 2:
A 26m workboat has conducted sea trials at an uncontrolled environment to demonstrate that she is able to perform autonomous navigation with no seafarers onboard but controlled remotely from shore. Trials reports and data collected able to correspond with the defined trial objectives. The workboat will be awarded with the following notation: SRS Smart D3A
Example 3:
A 34m ferry has conducted sea trials at an uncontrolled environment to demonstrate that she is able to undertake all aspects of a ship's operation without the need for human intervention such as autonomous navigation, remotely controlled and autonomous navigation, vessel monitoring and collision avoidance systems on board the vessel with no seafarers onboard. Trials reports and data collected able to correspond with the defined trial objectives. The workboat will be awarded with the following notation: SRS Smart D4A
SRS Welfare is assigned to Singapore ships that enhance seafarers’ quality of life onboard and mental wellness. Singapore ships must fulfil the minimum criteria with respect to habitability, mental health and increasing personnel comfort. The notation is sub-categorised into SRS Welfare, SRS Welfare+ and SRS Welfare++.

Singapore ships should meet both the SRS Welfare and SRS Welfare+ requirements in the checklist.
SRS Welfare++
Singapore ships should meet the SRS Welfare, SRS Welfare+ and SRS Welfare++ requirements in the checklist.
