Strathnaver Museum Find us We are located in the former church at Clachan to the east of the village of Bettyhill. Our prominent position is between Farr Bay and the A836. Access There is accessible parking in the overflow car park to the rear of the museum. This is signposted and the entry is shared with Farr Bay Inn. The museum annex and the first floor of the main museum is fully accessible. An Audio Visual Virtual Guide for the lower ground floor gallery and first floor is available from reception. Temporary exhibitions: we have two temporary exhibition spaces. They can be found in the Annex and upper gallery in the main museum. They will change regularly and a programme can be viewed here Clachan Cafe: enjoy refreshments, snacks, and treats at Clachan Cafe located on the roadside in front of the museum. Toilets: fully accessible toilet located in the reception of the main building. Public transport The following services are available (as of 6 March 2024) but may be subject to change. Do check the providers websites to ensure accurate information. The Durness Bus runs the 803 service between Durness and Thurso on Saturdays only. During school term the 803 runs a service between Bettyhill & Melness. During the school week it runs from Melness to Thurso on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. During the school holidays it runs between Tongue & Thurso, Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Bicyles must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Electric Charging Points There is an electric charging point in the car park in the village opposite the Bettyhill Hotel. Cycling There are cycle racks located in the car park to the rear of the Annex building. Dogs As much as we like dogs, we’re afraid only assistance dogs are allowed in the museum building. There are some lovely dog walks in our immediate surroundings including the Farr Bay and the Farr Glebe Bumblebee Meadow. Please note sheep may be present in the Glebe Field in front of the museum and the coastal strip along Farr Bay.
