MPH Degree Specialization Tracks
Epidemiology Track
The Epidemiology Track centers on exploring the patterns and causes of diseases and health conditions in populations. Students will gain expertise in study design, data analysis, and causal inference on a variety of public health issues, including infectious diseases and chronic conditions. Track courses will examine how these health issues are related to behavioral and lifestyle factors, as well as toxic environmental and occupational exposures. Required courses for this track emphasize research methods, quantitative reasoning, and techniques for epidemiologic investigation, allowing students to identify risk factors and develop effective prevention and control strategies.
Global Health Track
The Global Health Track in the MPH program at SGU will prepare students for analytical, practical and strategic decision-making within the global health environment. The main goal is to equip graduates with knowledge and skills to manage, lead and/or contribute to governmental and non-governmental organizations to achieve health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Emphasizing a multi-disciplinary, systems thinking approach, the curriculum includes projects that highlight innovative, equitable, and cost-effective solutions for solving complex and diverse challenges in disease prevention and control. Students will have access to diverse faculty, academic resources, networking opportunities, and support as they complete coursework towards developing specific foundational knowledge and skills in global health. This track is offered asynchronously, making it the most flexible online track.

Preventive Medicine Track
The Preventive Medicine track equips MD graduates with the knowledge and skills to address both communicable and non-communicable diseases through evidence-based strategies. Students learn to apply epidemiological and microbiological principles to disease prevention and control, interpret diagnostic and screening tests, and analyze biomedical data to support health promotion. Emphasis is placed on critically appraising scientific literature to implement effective public health interventions and improve population health outcomes.
MD/MPH Dual Degree Program
The dual MD/MPH degree provides integrated education and training that complements both areas of learning and provides the healthcare professional with a greater set of tools to understand and prevent human diseases. SGU’s MD/MPH dual degree offers a unique prospective on integrating medical care at both a universal and a patient level. The MD/MPH professional will have the credentials and expertise to interface as a multidisciplinary and interprofessional public health practitioner.
