has a small-town feel and students and community members say it’s just right—not so
big that it's easy to get lost, but not too small, either. Our campus itself is moderately
sized—the main campus corridor spans roughly three-quarters of a mile, which is walkable

Pep Band
doesn’t march—they meander. Huskies Pep Band encompasses the spirit of music and
camaraderie at Michigan Tech, performing at athletic events, parades, campus celebrations,
weddings, and more. Established in 1967, they have a longstanding tradition of black-and-yellow
striped overalls, funky hats, and making some of the loudest sounds around (116 decibels,
in fact)!

is Blizzard T. Husky (the “T” stands for “The”). Blizzard wears the number "85" to
recognize the year 1885, which is the year Michigan Tech was originally founded as
the Michigan Mining School.

is characterized by four distinct seasons and notable variations in temperature throughout
the year. Temperatures range from below freezing in the winter months, with average
lows around 10°F (-12°C) to 20°F (-6°C) and more than 200 inches of snow, to average
highs in the summer months ranging from around 68°F (20°C) to 82°F (28°C). Huskies
enjoy getting outside and enjoying the beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula in all four seasons.

! With more than 200 inches of annual snowfall, Huskies find endless ways to enjoy
our region’s legendary winters. Popular winter activities include skiing, snowboarding,
broomball, curling, dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and more. Plus, Michigan
Tech celebrates
Winter Carnival
each year—one of the largest annual winter celebrations in the nation, dating back
to 1922.

Is Michigan Tech test score optional?
SAT and ACT test scores are not needed to
apply for undergraduate admission
. Domestic students will receive an admission decision based on the high school transcript.
Homeschool applicants and students with a GPA below a 3.0 may be asked to submit official

What should I do in 10th grade to prepare for college?
Sophomore year is about connecting your interests with future opportunities. Keep
pushing yourself academically and consider honors, AP, or dual-enrollment classes
(if they fit your goals). Continue with activities you enjoy and step up your involvement.
Take the PSAT or PreACT for practice, and take note of what kinds of classes and projects
you like most.

What should I do in 11th grade to prepare for college?
Junior year is a big step in your college preparation. This is the time to take the
SAT or ACT, research colleges, and
visit campuses
(in person or virtually). Keep your grades strong and look for leadership opportunities
in clubs, sports, or community activities. Summer is a great time to build your resume—consider
internships, job shadowing, or academic programs that give you real-world experience.

What should I do in 12th grade to prepare for college?
Senior year means it’s
time to apply
. Narrow your list of colleges, keep track of deadlines, and start your applications
early (think August or September of your senior year). Ask teachers for recommendations
and give yourself time to polish your essays. Keep your grades up—even after you’ve
applied. Apply for scholarships and financial aid as soon as possible. Most importantly,
enjoy your last year of high school and get excited for what’s next!
