, a member of the State System of Higher Education, was founded in 1866 as Keystone State Normal School, became Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, Kutztown State College in 1960, and achieved university status in 1983. Today, Kutztown University is a modern, comprehensive institution.

Housing, Dining Services and Residence Life
First-time undergraduate students are required to live on campus their first four semesters (excluding summer sessions) or until they have earned 60 credits for first year students and 48 credits for transfers.
First-year students are permitted to have a car on campus.
Residence facilities include traditional, suite-style, and apartment-style.
Residence halls are wired for TV; have wireless Internet access; and 24-hour desk.
Special Interest Housing communities connect academic learning with residence life. Past communities have included KUVA art, social justice, Board of Governors scholars, transfer student, Honors Program, Stonewall community and more.
Two eateries include all-you-care-to-eat premium meals. In addition, there are three coffee shops (including Starbucks), a traditional-style cafeteria, snack bars and grills, and Chick-fil-A on campus.
Students living in traditional residence halls and suites are required to have one of the unlimited meal plans (MyTime Dining Diamond, Platinum, or Gold).
Student Life
McFarland Student Union acts as an alternate living room and home away from home with many areas for interaction. Amenities include TVs, study and interactive work spaces, meeting rooms, the Cub Café, Starbucks coffee shop, auditorium, computer lab, commuter lounge, radio station, Esports Arena, student organization offices, community outreach center, food pantry, credit union and the Campus Store.

Financial Aid
More than 80% of students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, or campus employment. Kutztown awards scholarships based on academic merit. We review students for scholarships at the time of acceptance. Scholarships can be combined with need-based financial aid after filing the FAFSA for qualifying students.
