Harris Chobham Academy Student Achieves Fantastic GCSEs - Seven Years Early!
Nines for nine-year old!
As 16-year-olds across the country celebrated their GCSE results last week, one student celebrated his GCSE success at the age of just nine.
Harris Academy Chobham pupil Musa has achieved top grade 9s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Musa studied for these exams outside of school but received support and encouragement from his Year 4 teachers.
Commenting on Musa's achievements, Francesca Perry, Executive Principal at Harris Academy Chobham, said: "Congratulations Musa! This is an incredible achievement and reflects Musa's huge potential for future academic success.
"We are all very proud of Musa's achievements which are an inspiration to us all. We look forward to welcoming Musa into Year 5 and giving him the opportunity to thrive across the curriculum."
Musa's parents, Saba and Moiz, said: "Any parent would be thrilled with this result but, given Musa's age, we feel extremely proud and honored of his remarkable achievement."
From learning multiplication tables at just two and a half, Musa has shown an intuitive grasp of mathematical concepts and a passion for problem-solving.
“When I registered for the exams, I wasn’t aiming for any particular grade,” Musa says. “I just wanted to get every question right. I enjoy learning and finding out why things are how they are. Word problems are my favourite, as they allow me to apply maths to real-life situations.”
After the Further Maths exam, he reflected on the single percentage point he missed, attributing it to a rounding error. “I know I lost two marks due to a rounding error and missed out on a 100% score that I really wanted,” Musa said. “But I also know that the next time similar question comes, I will not make the same mistake again.”
Musa wants to continue his passion for maths. Asked what’s next for him, he replied: “I just want to keep learning and finding out about new things. I know after GCSE you do A-Level Maths, so that could be an option too.”

Students Package 800 Meals with Barings
This week, selected Year 6 and Year 7 students were lucky enough to be invited by Barings, City of London to assist in making meal preparations for local schools.
Barings is a global asset management firm that partners with clients, and supports leading businesses with financing solutions. They are passionate about their initiative called Barings Social Impact which supports communities where they work and live.
Chobham students spent the afternoon with some Barings associates who also volunteered to give up their time to help. Everyone was allocated something to do - from labelling food containers, filling containers with pasta and sauce, counting items, and finally packaging finished containers into boxes ready for delivery.
The target of making 800 meals was easily achieved with all hands on deck. It was not all work as the students also managed to get an insider view of what work life is like at an investment bank from the associates. Overall, the students enjoyed their time and everyone felt good as it was all for a worthy cause!
The students absolutely loved the experience. As we were leaving, a student commented, "I feel so accomplished", which captured the impact beautifully. Thank you to Barings for making this opportunity possible.
