Many Hispanic cultures and traditions were celebrated during Multicultural Day on October1, and Hispanic Heritage Month Trivia was held. Members of the Students of Color Affinity (SOCA), made "Ojos de Dios" (God's Eyes) while learning about the history of their origin. Our Spanish IV students dove into the rich cultural traditions of southern Spain through a multidisciplinary exploration of music, literature, history, and art. They learned about flamenco , a traditional Andalusian art form that combines singing, instruments like the guitar and cajón , rhythmic clapping ( palmas ), and dancing. Flamenco reflects the diverse cultural influences of Spain, including Romani, Moorish, Jewish, and Christian heritage. To celebrate this tradition, students created and wore hair accessories inspired by the Sevillana style during their flamenco performance on Multicultural Day. In the classroom, Spanish IV explored the historical and cultural contexts of Southern Spain while reading Noches Misteriosas en Granada . Through the story, students discover the Alhambra, a historic palace and fortress in Granada built during the 13th and 14th centuries by the Nasrid dynasty. They also explored about Spanish food, customs, and daily life. This hands-on experience has helped students deepen their understanding and appreciation of Spain’s rich history and vibrant culture.
