The Burgundy Difference
Burgundy Difference
The Burgundy community is united by its commitment to creating a learning community that affirms children for who they are and where they are developmentally and that helps all our students realize their full potential as students and as people.
Giving
Giving
The Burgundy that our students and families love and enjoy today is the product of a handful of families doing together what none could have done individually: purchasing land, rehabilitating and raising buildings, hiring a professional faculty.

Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies
The Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies at Cooper’s Cove, located in a beautiful remote valley approximately 2 1/2 hours from Alexandria near Capon Bridge, West Virginia, is a wildlife sanctuary and educational program owned and run by the school. Beginning in first grade, students and teachers spend 2-3 days each fall and spring for academic immersive learning linked with lessons in Alexandria. This immersive programming takes advantage of the diverse natural setting and resources and focus on natural science.
Home to diverse wildlife, Cooper’s Cove encompasses field, thicket, forest, stream, and pond. The Cove extends to a ridge that provides a panoramic view of an Appalachian valley. The main building has an industrial kitchen, bathrooms and large rooms for gathering. Other facilities include two screened dorms and small cabins as well as a big timber-framed barn for evening gatherings like storytelling or square dancing. The remote setting and the deliberate avoidance of modern distractions provide students with a rare direct experience of nature that supports their growth as scientists, individual persons growing understanding their place in the universe, and responsible stewards of the planet.
