The painting was rediscovered by the museum’s exhibition curator and was traced to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, who agreed to loan the painting to be a part of the 50th anniversary exhibition celebration of the passing of Sir Winston Churchill.
From late 2014 to early 2015, the Millennium Gate Museum hosted the exhibition “The Art of Diplomacy: Winston Churchill and the Pursuit of Painting”, which showcased more than 30 of Churchill’s paintings. Churchill was a great fan and visitor of Georgia, and the exhibition drew a million people to the state. Pitt is reported to have purchased the painting as a gift for his then-fiancee, Angelina Jolie. They loaned us the painting as they were enamored with our narrative, "Did art save the Western world?" After the painting was shipped to Atlanta, Pitt requested that the identification plaque include both his and Angelina's names, as the couple were now married, a request the museum was more than happy to accommodate. In 2021, Angelina sold the painting at auction, where it shattered the previous record for a Churchill at auction of $2.75 million, set in 2014, when it sold for $11.5 million.
Our fundraising events to date have raised tens of millions of dollars to bring 12 world-class cultural exhibitions to the people of Georgia. All the exhibitions curated and choreographed by the museum are shared with other Georgia museums to share and exchange knowledge.
The Millennium Gate Museum is aligned with the Georgia Public School System's Standards of Excellence, which benefits 8th grade students for whom Georgia history is mandatory. The museum has had over a million 8th grade students come through to study and learn. With ancient artifacts, dioramas, and immersive digital exhibitions, the Millennium Gate Museum has provided a uniquely positive environment to foster learning in children.
The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, designed by the Greek sculptor Phidias, was recreated for the 20th anniversary celebration of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games. The original statue was completed around 435 BCE and endured for approximately 800 years before being moved or destroyed under unknown circumstances. Our model is based on the most accurate information available. Visitors to the Museum can experience the majesty of one of the Seven Wonders as well as iconic classical sculptures of Olympic athletes. It was a unique collaboration between university, museum, and design institute, and at the time was the largest 3d-printed replica of a classical monument in the world.
Testimonial
from our visitors and supporters
"My internship at the Gate has taught me not only about the inner workings of running a museum but also allowed me to grow as a leader in ways I could never have previously imagined. The skills and connections I've made will continue to serve into the future. Above all, my internship has inspired me the follow my passion and continue to help make the world a better place."
Samar Kibe, The Lovett School, 2022 summer intern
"The Millennium Gate experience is the equivalent of educational homeschooling of Georgia’s inspirational heroes in areas of leadership, courage, and humility. It is a model for the next greatest generation."
The Sewell Foundation, a Georgia-based non-profit
"The Millennium Gate Museum is a dynamic cultural asset and staple in the Atlantic Station community. With stunning architectural features on the exterior and impactful Georgia history within, it's no surprise that the museum has welcomed over a million visitors and counting."

"The Millennium Gate Museum tour was very exciting and the guide was excellent as he took us through the historical journey of Ambassador Young and answered all my questions. In the end I learnt about his milestones and the impactful life he lead. My key takeaway from the tour was his father's quote "Don't get mad; get smart". It was a pleasure to take the tour of the museum."
