Gaining research experience while an undergraduate has numerous benefits for your
college experience and post-college success. That’s why we encourage all students
to make it a key part of their time at Chapman.
No matter what your major is, you’ll have opportunities to participate in research
by joining faculty-led projects or even leading your own.
Academic Research Projects
Research is part of the academic experience in many programs. It can include everything
from class projects to internships to capstone experiences.
As you look at various majors and schools/colleges at Chapman, take a look at what
opportunities are available and how they align with your interests and goals.
Grand Challenges Initiative
The Grand Challenges Initiative (GCI) is a unique two-year project that is part of
the curriculum for all incoming first-year students in the
Schmid College of Science and Technology
and
Fowler School of Engineering
(though every Chapman student is eligible to join).
You’ll work in a small team of 4-6 students and one research mentor to take on one
of our most pressing problems, from reversing climate change to improving data security
to developing new health technology — and many more.
You can learn more on our
Grand Challenges Initiative website
Faculty-Led Research Projects
At Chapman, you will have a number of opportunities to work alongside your professors
and mentors and get real research experience.
Currently, nearly 30% of Chapman undergrads join a faculty-led research project. If
you can find a faculty member with a project you’re interested in, feel free to reach
out and ask if there are opportunities to join!
