That’s why we encourage all students to make it a key part of their time at Chapman. No matter what your major is, you’ll have opportunities to participate in research by joining faculty-led projects or even leading your own. Academic Research Projects Research is part of the academic experience in many programs. It can include everything from class projects to internships to capstone experiences. As you look at various majors and schools/colleges at Chapman, take a look at what opportunities are available and how they align with your interests and goals. Grand Challenges Initiative The Grand Challenges Initiative (GCI) is a unique two-year project that is part of the curriculum for all incoming first-year students in the Schmid College of Science and Technology and Fowler School of Engineering (though every Chapman student is eligible to join). You’ll work in a small team of 4-6 students and one research mentor to take on one of our most pressing problems, from reversing climate change to improving data security to developing new health technology — and many more. You can learn more on our Grand Challenges Initiative website Faculty-Led Research Projects At Chapman, you will have a number of opportunities to work alongside your professors and mentors and get real research experience. Currently, nearly 30% of Chapman undergrads join a faculty-led research project. If you can find a faculty member with a project you’re interested in, feel free to reach out and ask if there are opportunities to join! Toggle Section R2 Carnegie Classification Chapman has been elevated to R2 status by the Carnegie Classifications of Higher Education. This puts us in the top 10% of research universities in the country. More importantly, it means even more research opportunities for students across all disciplines.
