Skills & Strategies
We welcome pupils with additional educational needs or disabilities, providing that we can support them appropriately within the school to access the curriculum. We consider these individuals as twice exceptional. We advise parents of children with additional educational needs or physical disabilities to discuss their child’s requirements with us before they come to us for an assessment and to provide us with Educational Psychologist or medical reports where available.
For any child identified and diagnosed as neurodiverse, we work closely with the family to provide the appropriate level of support to enable them to reach their potential at no extra cost. We want our school to be inclusive and actively choose not to refer to ‘Special Educational Needs’ but to ‘Skills and Strategies for Learning’. Our Skills and Strategies team is integral and based in every school section.
Our Skills and Strategies team staff have expertise in working with pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties, including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, and organisational difficulties. Children diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty receive support in individual or small group lessons, with mathematics support provided in class.
Children receiving regular learning support have a Pupil Support Profile accessible to all teaching staff. All pupils receiving learning support are encouraged to undergo an updated external assessment in Year 7. This is to provide prospective senior schools with tailored information regarding a child’s progress, as well as strategies to support learning and to confirm the entitlement to exam concessions, such as extra time and laptop use.
