The Department of Nutrition & Health Promotion, formerly known as Food and Nutrition, at the University of Home & Economics (UHE), Lahore, has been a pioneer in the field since its establishment in 1955. It holds the distinction of launching Pakistan’s inaugural Food and Nutrition Program, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s nutritional education landscape. In 1998, the department collaborated with Iowa State University, USA, to introduce the first Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics in the country. The Department of Nutrition & Health Promotion envisions a world where every individual enjoys optimal health and well-being through the power of nutrition and health education. We strive to be a global leader in advancing knowledge, promoting evidence-based practices, and fostering innovation in nutrition and health promotion.

Programs
Following programs are offered by Department of Nutrition and Health Promotion:
1. BS Human Nutrition & Dietetics
This program prepares students for careers as registered dietitians, nutritionists, or nutrition educators. Students gain a deep understanding of human nutrition, metabolism, and dietary patterns, as well as practical skills in nutrition assessment, counseling, and intervention.
2. BS Food Science & Technology
This program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in food product development, quality assurance, food safety, and food manufacturing. Students learn about food chemistry, microbiology, processing technologies, and food product innovation.
3. BS Public Health Nutrition
This program focuses on the role of nutrition in promoting population health and preventing chronic diseases. Students learn about public health principles, epidemiology, health promotion strategies, and community nutrition interventions.

MS Food & Nutrition
This postgraduate program provides advanced training in nutrition science, food policy, and public health nutrition. Students have the opportunity to conduct original research and gain specialized knowledge in areas such as nutritional epidemiology, food systems, global nutrition, and nutrition education.

Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics
A Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics is a specialized program designed to equip individuals with advanced knowledge and skills in the field of dietetics, with a focus on nutrition, health, and wellness. This diploma program typically follows completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as nutrition, dietetics, food science, or biology.
Through our comprehensive curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, and commitment to excellence, we prepare our graduates to be leaders and change agents in their respective fields, driving innovation, advancing knowledge, and improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities around the world.
Admission Criteria
1. BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics
BS Human Nutrition & Dietetics is a Four Year BS Program (8 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
The candidates holding F.Sc. (Pre-Medical)/A levels (Biology & Chemistry), FA Home Economics (From College of Home Economics & Social Sciences) or equivalent qualification with at least 60% marks and age not more than 24 years are eligible for admission in BS Human Nutrition & Dietetics.

BS Food Science and Technology
BS Food Science and Technology is a Four Year BS Program (8 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
Intermediate (Pre-Medical or Pre-Engineering or FA Home Economics (From College of Home Economics & Social Sciences) or equivalent recognized qualification with minimum 60% marks i.e. 660/1100, or Intermediate (Pre-Agriculture) securing CGPA 2.50/4.00.
3. BS Public Health Nutrition
BS Public Health Nutrition is a Four Year BS Program (8 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
The candidates holding F.Sc. (Pre Medical/Pre-Engineering) /ICS/ A levels (Biology) or equivalent (DAE related to Food & Nutrition Sciences, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Technology or FA Home Economics (From College of Home Economics & Social Sciences) qualification with at least 50% marks and age not more than 24 years are eligible for admission in BS programs.
4. MS Food & Nutrition
MS Food & Nutrition is a Two Year MS Program (4 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must have sixteen-years of education in the disciplines of Human Nutrition & Dietetics, Food Science, and Home Economics (Food & Nutrition) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 OR 60% marks in BS (hons)/M.Sc. from a recognized University in related field of study. The candidates need to fulfill the departmental eligibility criteria. Furthermore, university reserves the right to excuse any candidate for admission without giving any reason.
All candidates must appear for UHE Subject Test/GAT General.
Only short listed candidates will be called for the Interview.
Note: Qualifying score for UHE Subject Test or GAT General is 50%.
Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics
1 Year Diploma (including clinical internship)
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
1st Division in MSc/BS Home Economics with Majors in Food & Nutrition/Dietetics, BS HND or any relevant or equivalent degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, MBBS or Pharmacy. Eligible candidates will be selected after Test and interview.

Q11. Are there any provisions for students applying in UHE from outside of Lahore to have hostel facility in University of Home Economics?
Yes, the hostel facility is available on first come first serve basis.
Q12. Do you offer weekend classes?
No.
Q13. Is there a fee refund policy?
Yes, the fee can be refunded within one week of the commencement of classes.
Q14. What if I want to migrate to another program?
As per HEC Policy, you can migrate from one program to another only once.

Programs
Following programs are offered by Department of Nutrition and Health Promotion:
1. BS Human Nutrition & Dietetics
This program prepares students for careers as registered dietitians, nutritionists, or nutrition educators. Students gain a deep understanding of human nutrition, metabolism, and dietary patterns, as well as practical skills in nutrition assessment, counseling, and intervention.
2. BS Food Science & Technology
This program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in food product development, quality assurance, food safety, and food manufacturing. Students learn about food chemistry, microbiology, processing technologies, and food product innovation.
3. BS Public Health Nutrition
This program focuses on the role of nutrition in promoting population health and preventing chronic diseases. Students learn about public health principles, epidemiology, health promotion strategies, and community nutrition interventions.

This postgraduate program provides advanced training in nutrition science, food policy, and public health nutrition. Students have the opportunity to conduct original research and gain specialized knowledge in areas such as nutritional epidemiology, food systems, global nutrition, and nutrition education.

Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics
A Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics is a specialized program designed to equip individuals with advanced knowledge and skills in the field of dietetics, with a focus on nutrition, health, and wellness. This diploma program typically follows completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as nutrition, dietetics, food science, or biology.
Through our comprehensive curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, and commitment to excellence, we prepare our graduates to be leaders and change agents in their respective fields, driving innovation, advancing knowledge, and improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities around the world.
Admission Criteria
1. BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics
BS Human Nutrition & Dietetics is a Four Year BS Program (8 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
The candidates holding F.Sc. (Pre-Medical)/A levels (Biology & Chemistry), FA Home Economics (From College of Home Economics & Social Sciences) or equivalent qualification with at least 60% marks and age not more than 24 years are eligible for admission in BS Human Nutrition & Dietetics.

BS Food Science and Technology
BS Food Science and Technology is a Four Year BS Program (8 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
Intermediate (Pre-Medical or Pre-Engineering or FA Home Economics (From College of Home Economics & Social Sciences) or equivalent recognized qualification with minimum 60% marks i.e. 660/1100, or Intermediate (Pre-Agriculture) securing CGPA 2.50/4.00.
3. BS Public Health Nutrition
BS Public Health Nutrition is a Four Year BS Program (8 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
The candidates holding F.Sc. (Pre Medical/Pre-Engineering) /ICS/ A levels (Biology) or equivalent (DAE related to Food & Nutrition Sciences, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Technology or FA Home Economics (From College of Home Economics & Social Sciences) qualification with at least 50% marks and age not more than 24 years are eligible for admission in BS programs.
4. MS Food & Nutrition
MS Food & Nutrition is a Two Year MS Program (4 Semesters).
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must have sixteen-years of education in the disciplines of Human Nutrition & Dietetics, Food Science, and Home Economics (Food & Nutrition) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 OR 60% marks in BS (hons)/M.Sc. from a recognized University in related field of study. The candidates need to fulfill the departmental eligibility criteria. Furthermore, university reserves the right to excuse any candidate for admission without giving any reason.
All candidates must appear for UHE Subject Test/GAT General.
Only short listed candidates will be called for the Interview.
Note: Qualifying score for UHE Subject Test or GAT General is 50%.
Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics
1 Year Diploma (including clinical internship)
Minimum Qualification/Eligibility Criteria
1st Division in MSc/BS Home Economics with Majors in Food & Nutrition/Dietetics, BS HND or any relevant or equivalent degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, MBBS or Pharmacy. Eligible candidates will be selected after Test and interview.

Yes, the hostel facility is available on first come first serve basis.

Yes, the fee can be refunded within one week of the commencement of classes.
Q14. What if I want to migrate to another program?
As per HEC Policy, you can migrate from one program to another only once.
